February 2017 Update

Big News this month!

We are THRILLED to announce that we have hired a Head Teacher for our K-3 classroom.  Heather Heffernan comes to us from North Platte, NE.  Heather has years of experience as an educator in many capacities - as a para-educator in public schools, a swim coach, a homeschool facilitator, and a Sunday school educator - and is the perfect fit for our school.  She is truly passionate about Montessori education, and we cannot wait for you all to meet her!  You can read a letter of introduction she has written to all of you here.

Now that we formally have our Head Teacher lined up, we can focus on our enrollment.  We are now accepting enrollment applications for the 2017-18 academic year!  Applications are due by April 15, 2017, but we will begin processing your application as soon as it is received, so we recommend getting them in as soon as possible.  If you are on our waitlist for the 2017-18 school year, I have sent an enrollment application to your email.

We are also pleased to invite you to our Family Information Night, which will be on February 20, 6-8 pm, at the Unitarian Church.  It will be held in the rooms we will rent for our classrooms, so you can see our space (obviously not yet set up, so we’ll have to use some imagination).  You will have a chance to meet Heather, our newly hired and fabulous Head Teacher, and Laura, our Executive Director.  We’ll talk about how Bluestem will run, and about how the Montessori method is applied in the elementary years (for more on this, see these blog entries).  Childcare will be provided, but please RSVP so that we know how many children to expect.  We hope to see a lot of you there!

Until next time,

Laura
