What's up at Bluestem?

1,000 Cranes for Lincoln's Healing

In these troubled times, Bluestem Montessori has decided to facilitate a city-wide act of healing. We are all stressed and lonely and a little scared. As we were learning about origami this month, we came across the traditional Japanese story of senbazuru. According to the legend, anyone who crafts 1,000 origami cranes will be granted a wish or healing from the gods.

Our city - and our world - needs healing now more than ever. So join us in making 1,000 origami cranes. Our goal is to have the senbazuru finished by May 21 (our last day of school) and our wish is to bring healing to Lincoln.

Linda Stephen, a talented local origami artist, volunteered her time to teach us how to make cranes. We think the video is super helpful! It has some great ‘cheats’ to make your cranes even better.

Once you've made your cranes, you can either keep and display them yourself and tell us how many you have made for our count, or you can deliver them to us (contactless of course) and we will keep count and create a display.

If you need origami paper, please contact us and we will do our best to get you some.

Happy (and peaceful) folding, friends. We hope this project grants you peace and healing as we get through this pandemic together.
